DEFTER
Messaging Terms
Last updated: October 30, 2026
These terms describe optional SMS/text communications sent by your organization using DEFTER. The sending organization, rather than DEFTER's software platform, operates the SMS program and obtains your consent.
Message purpose
Depending on the program you separately choose, texts may concern existing pledges or contributions, membership fees, services, meetings, or community activities. They may include your name, remaining balance, or organization contact information. Messages can be in the languages selected by the organization. Your opt-in request must identify the sender and the specific types of messages you agree to receive.
SMS consent is optional and separate
You do not have to agree to SMS or text messages to create an account, register, become or remain a member, access services or benefits, attend activities, make a donation or pledge, pay membership fees, or complete any other transaction. You can decline or withdraw SMS consent and continue using those services. Consent is not a condition of purchase, payment, membership, or service.
Agreeing to these Messaging Terms or the Privacy Policy is separate from agreeing to receive texts. Providing a phone number, joining an organization, importing a contact, or having an outstanding balance does not give permission to send SMS. An administrator's consent setting must reflect permission you actually gave; it cannot replace your opt-in.
Before enrollment, the organization identified in your opt-in request must identify itself and clearly describe the SMS program, message types, expected frequency, possible carrier charges, and how to stop messages or get help. Any SMS consent choice must be optional and separate from other agreements. Any SMS consent checkbox must be unchecked by default; leaving it unchecked must not prevent registration or access to services.
The separate opt-in request must ask whether you agree to receive SMS/text messages from the named organization at your provided number about the specific program you select, such as pledge reminders, membership fee reminders, or organization announcements. Permission for one organization or program does not authorize unrelated messages or texts from another organization.
The organization must retain a record of your affirmative choice, the phone number, when and how permission was given, and the consent wording presented. No texts may be sent unless the required consent has been obtained. Reading or accepting this page does not enroll you; contact the organization for its separate opt-in process.
You may withdraw consent at any time by replying STOP to a message or contacting the sending organization. Withdrawing consent does not affect your membership, services, or existing financial obligations. A new affirmative opt-in is required before enrollment resumes.
Review the Privacy Policy and contact the sending organization with questions. If you are not sure who is requesting consent, ask for the organization's name and contact details before agreeing.
Frequency and charges
Message frequency varies by the program and schedule you select. Pledge and membership fee reminders are typically weekly or monthly while a balance remains; requested manual reminders and separately chosen announcements may also be sent. Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile plan.
Opt out and get help
Reply STOP to a text to unsubscribe from future messages from that sender. For messaging help, corrections, or questions about your balance, contact the sending organization using its published contact details or the help instructions in its messages. Opting out does not change a contribution or fee balance or limit access to services. Sending START does not by itself provide a new program-specific opt-in.
Delivery and privacy
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on network availability and carrier limitations. This service is not for emergencies.
Messages may be visible to anyone with access to your phone. Provide only a number you are authorized to use and tell the organization if it changes. Mobile information and SMS opt-in data or consent are not sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
See the Privacy Policy for information about records, service providers, and access. DEFTER does not collect payments.
